Title

Diving a Vital Dye

Abstracts

In chromovitrectomy, Brilliant Blue (BB) and Trypan Blue (TB) are commonly used vital dyes. However, density of BB is lower than balanced salt solution (BSS), so it tends to diffuse instead of depositing over the macula. Furthermore, TB by itself can be toxic to retinal pigment epithelium after prolonged exposition. We compared the behavior in BSS between BB 0.05% and its combination with TB 0.1% in a proportion of 1:1. The combined solution showed safety and ability to fall onto the macula.
