CONGENITAL VITREOUS CYST OBSERVED IN OPTIMIZED ROUTINE OPHTHALMOLOGIC - CASE REPORT

Introdução / Purpose

Case report: 82 year old female patient, no relevant records, complains of on and off blurred vision for the last 20 years in the right eye. During the exam visual acuity was verified, better corrected with 20/20 on both eyes. During the fundoscopy was observed a fluctuant structure, oval shape, and translucid in the vitreous cavity. Exams were done, all results came back negative. The B-scan ultrasoun has shown a spherical mobile mass within the vitreous gel measuring approximately 2.4 mm, and characteristics found to be compatible with congenital vitreous cyst.

Material e Método / Methods

Method: The information were obtained through interviewing the patient in a routine examination to evaluate refraction, detailed ophthalmologic examination, as well as B-scan ultrasound and Retinography.

Resultados / Results

Objective: to report a case of congenital Vitreous Cyst in a 82 year old female patient, during a routine examination.

Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion

Discussion: Vitreous Cysts are very rare structures with very few documented reports in the literature. Its origin might be traumatic, congenital or idiopathic. The majority of cases do not cause evident symptoms and is accidentally found in more sophisticated examinations. Exams which the patient was subject to, as well as the results found in other reports, has shown a structure cystoid in shape, translucid and floating. At first, it was considered as a diagnosis hypothesis Ocular Cysticercosis, which also presents a cystoid shape, although yellow-white in color and the presence of scolex.
Conclusion: the importance of reporting this case lies in the rarity of this theme in the Brazilian and international ophthalmological literature as well as its symptomatology, which can be mistaken for other possible ophthalmological illnesses, and therefore delay or even prevents its diagnosis.
