Title

ACUTE MACULAR RETINOPATHY IN A 12-YEAR-OLD PATIENT - MULTIMODAL RETINAL IMAGING AND FOLLOW-UP

Summary

A 12-year-old female presented in our Clinic with a subtle vision loss in the right eye for 4 days. POH was unremarkable. PMH comprised a history of Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill intake for the treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome for 5 months. The ophthalmological exam showed BCVA of 20/20 in OU, normal Slit Lamp Examination. The Fundus Examination was normal in OU. No lesions were identified in Autofluorescence and Fluorescein Angiography. Infra-red imaging showed a juxtafoveal darkened retinal area. In OCT imaging, a hyperreflective lesion in the outer retinal layers associated with irregular imaging of these layers was observed. OCT-A revealed an enlarged FAZ. After 3 months follow up, a comprehensive evaluation was repeated, with the appearance of a darkened retinal area compatible with the lesion previously identified in the infra-red image. The OCT aspect evolved with the loss of the ellipsoid layer in the affected area. AMN is a rare disorder that affects women in teen-30`s. The etiology is unknown. This is the youngest report of AMN found in the literature.
